I would like to donate a circa 1980 microwave (one of the first ones) in perfect shape. It is a complete square, white with a red digital display at the top. It actually still works! (And I have the Toshiba recipe/instruction book that goes with it.)

I also have 2 sets of old wooden crutches I would like to donate.

I have 2 playbills from every play I have ever been to (back to the 1970s---some original Steppenwolf (eg, The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit), Organic Theater (eg, Bloody Bess), etc...

I have 2 men's hats (possibly 1940s but could be later) in their original boxes.

Please contact me if I can donate any or all of these.

I usually follow the "If you build it, they will come" principle. It worked for backstagejobs - use of that site has doubled since we made it user-editable. There are elements of this that are more personal - facebooky kind of stuff - which means we need to tread lightly where subjectivity is concerned.

I'm also going to get in touch with the chicago theater history project once it's rolling and get them in on the game... they have a similar database that has only one purpose - determining where old show archives are kept. I think if we combine these applications, the combined data will be both easier to collect and ultimately more valuable.

Up until Friday, I had a copy of almost every program for every show I'd seen in the past twenty years, in part because I liked looking back and recognizing names that may have recently blown up.

Due to our need to streamline for the upcoming move, Dana and I decided to toss all of these except for those in which we were directly involved. Had I but known, I might have been willing to donate them for this project. C'est la vie.

The CTDB is a great idea in principle and I have no doubt that there are enough of us out there with a decent personal database of people we've worked with or have watched work (or who we go out of our way to see work) that creating the CTBD itself may require more time than investigative effort. I do wonder how to make it more widely known as a tool.
